My name is Alyssia Sanchez and I go to the University of Guelph. I am in my third year of biomedical engineering in the co-op stream. My program is 5 years so my expected graduation year is 2022.

Let's talk about the school:
PROS:
The food is rated the best campus food in Ontario, my favourite times of the day were always times that involved eating.
The campus is beautiful, very closed concept and nature-esque.
Our campus basically feels like a small town for University students, and you can walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes, so it's not overwhelming.
The people in Guelph are very kind and accommodating, everyone is always willing to help.
Guelph is one of the safest cities in Canada, so it would definitely put your parent's minds at ease.
The University of Guelph is also big on the sciences and agriculture, and fields like engineering are definitely on the rise.
CONS:
University of Guelph is not as well recognized internationally as other Universities.
A bit more about my program:
PROS:
A unique integration of health sciences and engineering and it is a relatively new career path to take.
There are plenty of jobs rising in this field, as the need for biotechnology continues to grow.
Co-op program is extremely valuable as it not only gives you much needed experience in the field, but it lets you explore your options and identify what you like and don’t like. It also helps a lot financially!
The engineering building at the University is fairly new as well, so all of our labs and equipment are in great condition.
The professors are caring and always ready to help students.
Biomedical engineering is a career where you have the opportunity to change the lives of millions with the innovations you create… It is most definitely a rewarding career that I am very passionate about.
CONS:
This is definitely not an easy course. It is extremely work intensive, even if you are used to barely studying and still doing well.
Very little or no time for extracurriculars and your whole nights are spent studying. It was kind of a big shock to me, as the transition from high school was kind of rough. There are times when I could barely keep my head above water, but it is important to remember the end goal and to always stay motivated.
A word of advice from me!
Choose the program that you are passionate about! Don’t ever make decisions based off money income or family pressure. Following your ambitions, along with hard work and dedication, is the true path to success.
To close off, please, please, feel free to contact me! I love helping aspiring students choose their University and offering advice about programs. Even if it’s information about the University or engineering information in general I will gladly help you.
